Philadelphia has birthed some of the grittiest MCs to ever grace the mic. From Freeway to Meek Mill to Eve and everyone in between, the City of Brotherly Love has a long-standing legacy in Hip Hop that has solidified it as a hotbed for up-and-coming rappers. Names like Lil Uzi Vert, Tierra Whack, PnB Rock, and more are keeping the city’s name alive while also adding their own unique sound – different from what fans can say they’ve become accustomed to. Philly native 5ive On It is hoping to become the latest breakout star to add his name amongst the forever-growing list.

Though just two years into his music career, 5ive On It has showcased his work ethic early, releasing six projects thus far. An ex-football player at the University of Charleston, he has carried his mindset off the field into the booth; telling stories of an inner-city kid adjusting to college life while still dealing with the harsh realities that still exist back home. His project titles thus far have been inspired by his time on the field, naming his projects “1st Quarter,” “2nd Quarter,” and so on and titling his songs after football terminology like “Poles” and “Fumble Recovery.”

While he says he misses his time on the field, he’s now shifted his focus to music. “It’s something I’ve been passionate about for a long time,” he says in his recent interview Mr. Jay Hill. “I want to keep going because I want to leave something where my son can always hear my voice.”

For our new segment “Five On It,” inspired by his name and the Luniz song of the same title, we had the Philly native fittingly name his Top 5 cheesesteak spots in his hometown. Read below to see his list, and watch his interview with Mr. Jay Hll here.

5ive On It’s Top 5 Cheesesteak Spots
